Dinner at Sella - 2026-01-27

Wanted to share our experience dining at Sella this trip, having read some earlier not-so-positive reviews. We were last there about 3 years ago, shortly after it opened. Some things are the same such as the very loud music once the DJ starts up, making dinner conversations difficult at best at that point. The food was very good. We shared a few starters (eggplant, burrata) which were both well prepared and tasty. We both had the Lamb Souvlaki entry which was mini lamb tacos, which were excellent. However, upon receiving the bill I noticed that we were overcharged for the wine by 40 euros (which I didn't mention) and then we got the hard pressure campaign to leave a tip, as reported by others, which we declined! They insisted that "service is not included" even though of course it is (the bottom of the pages in their wine list even confirms that). So in the end we won't go back as the evening ended poorly.

Excuse me?

That seems to be Sella's MO, so many similar stories on social media and Trip Advisor. I would have definitely said something about the wine overcharge though!!!

we've been on a Baroque theme with dinner this week: Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Pachelbel, Telemann, etc
more conducive to conversation and digestion than thump-thump-thump 🤓

Thank you for this update. We only dined at Sella once, Nov 2024, just the two of us, and went early. We ordered lightly and only had cocktails and wines by the glass. It was uncrowded, no loud music, no pressure to tip but it was pre-holiday week and a very quiet night--clearly not the usual atmosphere. It is pretty at night, esp if uncrowded, and the food was quite good; we have not (and will not) be back for reasons stated. It's a shame, esp given its history as Maya's, though time marches on...thankfully there are still quiet (and principled) places to dine.

Same people that run LeTi someone just wrote about a similar up charge and tip request . I thought the Collectivity was trying to suppress this illegal predatory behavior ?

Their doors are still open; it has been about 2-years since they chased me away by attempting to charge for items we did not order or receive. I guess there are still enough fools to fill their cash register.

Reminds me of my recent experience with Sixt car rental in Italy. Nice cars, but they attempted to defraud me twice on one rental !
First with fuel charge then with phony damage claim for pre-existing damage.
Internet based research suggest those practices are systemic so obviously orchestrated by management. Shocking.

Oh là là..are they owned by Hertz?🙄🙄🙄. Hertz is famous for phony damage charges and worse..horrible history!

All I remember about Maya’s is the wonderful service the wonderful food the wonderful ambiance. And we had the opportunity to dine next to Jackie O and the kids years ago. It was our first night and last night as well. We also found a way to squeeze in a middle.
