"Anyone Can Whistle"

. . . one of the great standards in Barbara Cook's repertoire from a collection of Stephen Sondheim music. A Tony award winner and Kennedy Center Honors recipient, she died today at 89 after a turbulent life and famed career as an actress, singer, and cabaret performer. In the latter years, I often heard her sing at the Cafe Carlyle in New York, as she continued to go for and hit very high notes in singing of emotional highs & lows learned in personal experience.

I too was a big fan. Loved her in MUSIC MAN and her role as Marian, the librarian with love interest Robert Preston, and think of her fondly. She will be missed.

I think I first saw her in "Plain and Fancy," a musical set in Amish country
