Gluten / Dairy Free

We're coming to the island in a few weeks and was hoping to get some intelligence on the availability of gluten / dairy free options at the various grocery stores & markets. I saw a post from a few years ago and just wondering if anyone has any more recent experience. Overall, it's not a huge issue, she's perfectly happy with various meat/fish/fruit/vegetables, but just wondering what selection we might find on island. Any input would be appreciated.

Good Question. I am gluten sensitive and with the French being so health conscious with their food, I had no problem avoiding gluten while in St Barth's last week. La Creperie even had a large section of their menu devoted to buckwheat crepes! They always offer
many vegetable dishes which happen to be my favorite thing to order. Also they serve a lot of fish, grilled or baked, with sauces that do not seem to have flour. I was very pleased! Good Luck!

Goat's milk is sold at Marche U and JoJo, perhaps among others. I though it great on my morning cereal.

Goat's milk has lactose and some who are allergic to cow's milk may also be allergic to goat's milk. I suppose the poster should know if his wife can drink goat milk.

I didn't know that goat's milk has lactose. Normally, it bothers me if I drink cow's milk, but the goat's milk caused no problems. Thanks for the education.

Goats milk may or may not bother those who can't drink cows milk. That's why I qualified it. Soy milk has no lactose.

All mammals produce lactose. Watch out for rat milk.

For starters my wife drinks soy milk which they have in abundance.

Andy, I have a nutrition Degree but this is just friendly advice...STOP DRINKING SOY....it is actually poisonous to humans and causes problems in Thyroid and other important organs...if you have more interest in this concept let me know and I will direct you to some good information....

Real Soy is a fermented product and is very healthy....SOY products are NOT FERMENTED and actually have very little benefit and cause health problems...

if your wife is Lactose intolerant have her switch to KEFIR instead

Soy milk contains a high level of phytoestrogen, which mimics the functions of the hormone estrogen in humans. Some studies have shown that regular intake of soy products can increase breast cancer risks in women. I stay away from all soy products and prefer almond milk.
