CASTAWAYS ON A FRENCH ISLE

Pin the tail on the Les Castlets (unoccupied)

We played this game a year or so ago -- exactly where was it located?

Well since we came for the first time in 1994 and then didn't come back until after Luis, I guess I have to wait and see which it was. Didn't get to Castelets on our first trip. Really curious. Stayed in a villa in the area of B once. The only restaurant mentioned in the article that we ever made it to was Au Port. We really liked that place. Sad to see the space still empty and run down.

Au Port-a lot of steps but wonderful duck, great service, and a caring host! I too miss it.

"I was just thinking about La Toque Lyonnaise and the goofy lion with a toque!"
"Phil and I enjoyed lunches at La Toque as well. Kids swam in the pool waiting for food to arrive. View-to die."

Photos and matchbook from our first trip in 1991 when we stayed at the El Sereno Beach Hotel, now Le Sereno. Here's the lion with the toque and the lovely pool, plus the courtyard in the midst of the rooms. What a great vacation that was...

Still true: the feeling of really getting away with no agenda. And, I think 9 year-old Jamie Patricoff did a great job of summing up what a lot of us like.

best stuffed Christophine ever on the island...We miss it a lot....

We also enjoyed the christophine at Auport but thought the stuffed christophine with lobster at Marigot Bay was exceptional!

Always our restaurant of choice for last night, often with Lloyd and Pat.

"best stuffed Christophine ever on the island...We miss it a lot...." MikeR

"We do not miss the heat of the place and the awful view of La Poste." JEK

"Poste wasn't there and We always got the table by the window" MikeR

"
Not in the beginning, but when it came it was awful." JEK

scintillating repartee

How right you are!Au Port and Marigot Bay were both wonderful restaurants, and we have great memories of great meals,in both venues, with you two.
We have kept up with Georges and Annie Valenti, from Au Port since they left, and continue to receive one of Georges' wild, cartoon Christmas cards each year .Now there was a real, old time island character- from the early days at the old PLM,then Au Port.He still phones Marius each year on his birthday. In many ways,Mike is right- the island was very special in those days. But,it's great now, too!
Living in Gustavia,as we do when on island,it pains me to see that empty restaurant as I walk to and from the church many times a week.
