They've been advertising for staff, female-only for bartenders and waitstaff, non-specific for valets.

It's interesting -- as I've learned as proprietor of the Normandie -- that French law permits employers to discriminate in hiring among men & women on the basis of gender.

It's a very well known beach club in St Tropez with a velvet rope and sometimes a tough entry in July and August. Much like Nikki Beach over there

It used to be.

La Voile Rouge in St Tropez has been shut down by the authorities one year ago. They were illegally occupying part of the beach in Pampelonne for 10 years according to the court ruling.

Rumor has it that they have been put away by competition. It is a tough world out there.

I'm not sure if there is any connection with Voile Rouge in St Barths.

Well spotted.

However I guarantee you Voile rouge St Tropez does not exist any longer (I was on Pampelonne beach the whole summer).

Perhaps the owners decided to move business to St Barths. After all, Niki Beach did the same, and quite successfully.

Definately not in St Tropez any more. Was there this summer. From what we were told, it was a series of longstanding and unaddressed noise issues that led to the shut down.

If its similar to the st Tropez version it's an interesting question as to the collective interest for serviced beach clubs in SBH

A few weeks ago we stopped in and the place was looking (in the process of becoming) quite refreshed. Nice tables, umbrellas, fixtures. Pool was emptied and being glazed, polished, whatever . . . but at least on the front teeth of the property it was looking to show new vitality.

Still love the charm of slim-to-none signs and findability. Nice breezes, too; may or may not be coincident w surf and surfers patterns.

Sorry to hear that Voile Rouge in St. Tropez is no more. We spent several entertaining afternoons there on two different visits (different years). On one visit they "decapitated" the top of a magnum of champagne with a sword.

For those interested, an inventory of all Pampelonne beach clubs, their sector, and ambiance/clientele. Notice Voile Rouge is listed as lot de plage supprimé. By court order the premises were demolished on December 7, 2011.

La Voile Rouge at Manapany grand opening postponed from yesterday till midi Saturday. Curious to see what's going on at this oft overlooked spot. Any on-island volunteers?

Went on "opening day" and they weren't open. Alleged to try to open again tomorrow. After a friend received an email with menu and pricing I don't think I will be in any hurry to rush back. Pricing puts the "old" Taiwana to shame. I have heard from numerous island folks that this place is being leased for a very short period of time. Would be curious to have that confirmed as well as having someone drag up their lunch and dinner menu which I have no idea how to post from the email that was forwarded to me. kr

You've raised a question that I too had - is this strictly a highest of high season venue, or a venue that intends to operate for the long run. I have similar question about Carole's Tam Garden venue at the former Le Tamarin.

For me, for the Voile Rouge and Tam Garden venues, I expect to spend as much time there as I currently spend at Nikki Beach and Yach Club. Fortunately for all of the aforementioned venues, I'm not in their preferred client base.
