JIMMY BUFFET PASSED AWAY YESTERDAY SEPTEMBER 1ST.

Senior Insider
I am having a hard time taking in this news which I read on a NYT alert. So many fond SBH memories.

Oh wow! We’ve been to many of his concerts at Great Woods. We saw him play on the quay in ‘99, from the Troyer’s boat in ‘09, and at Le Select in ‘19. RIP Jimmy.

Just so sad, what a legend. First saw him in Houston in 1977 when he backed up the Eagles in Jeppesen Stadium.

From the walls of Le Select ... Jimmy was a 'one-of-kind' artist. How many people can remember some of the best times of our lives with Jimmy Buffet music in the background? I suspect that heaven will treat him well. RIP Jimmy - you deserve it!

I am gonna miss one of the friendliest guys I got to know during my years of being on st Barths. Jimmy was always a joy to see at live at venues such as Madison Square Garden, Jones Beach theater, and the end of my Isle of Long, Montauk.

He and his fabulous crew and staff put together shows so that many could simply gather and just have fun. He sure liked good times.

Jimmy’s grin and hugs are sure gonna be missed. A bummer to the end of this crazy summer of 2023. Know that your tunes and your playful spirit will continue to spread messages of love and friendship around the world wherever fish swim and waves tumble and cold beer is served.

It was a real pleasure having you as part of my life, especially the St Barth’s parts. I am sad and somehow I am smiling remembering you and knowing you are knocking on heaven’s door.

Hope you find a guitar and a puppy waiting for you so that you get to add a new territory to your list of so many happy places.

Adieu.

I think about this line from Jimmy's "cease-and-desist" letter, which Steve Eng used as a preface to his unauthorized biography quite often:

I had been counting down the years until Jimmy turned 86, really looking forward to reading about his life in his own words. It's sad that he didn't make it to that age and I sincerely hope he wrote some autobiographical pieces (besides all the songs and A Pirate Looks at Fifty, of course) that will someday see publication.

Fair winds, Jimmy!

This is very sad news to wake up to this morning. I always hoped to be in St Barts for for one of Jimmy’s impromptu concerts, but I never did see him there. The closet I got was seeing his plane with the fin on its tail parked at SBH.
If you were lucky enough to see Jimmy in St Barts, please post your memories for all of us to enjoy. 😢

Our fondest memory of seeing Jimmy on the island was on a quiet Thursday afternoon. We were having a drink at Select. Michelle was bartender at the time and he motioned for us to come inside bar and go to the door that lead to the back area. We stood there without being noticed by Jimmy and David Wegman sitting together playing their guitars. It was quite the special moment.
RIP Jimmy

We saw him at Le Select where he graciously signed his autograph for our daughter and also saw him at Great Woods. One of the best entertainers ever.

I have such fantastic, fond memories of Jimmy. He was such a "regular" guy. He'd pop into the Baz Bar, grab a guitar and just start singing. I'll never forget sitting with him and Eddy at table at Eddy's, never even mentioning Jimmy by name and making small talk. May he rest in peace.
