I loved this author’s novel CUTTING FOR STONE about 5 years ago. Eagerly picked up this new one. Set in India and it does not disappoint. The kind of book that makes you sorry you have real life things to tend to and have to put it down. I did.

The family tragedy, the culture and the poverty of this huge population is revealed in a fascinating family saga. It tackles, poverty and hunger, health care and the lack of it,n and the foibles of this very unique population and its heritage.

A big beautifully written novel set in India that I predict will be a future prize winner in the mold of A FINE BALANCE, SHANTARAM and THE WHITE TIGER

Very well written. Strong unforgettable characters. Themes are Indian culture, poverty, disease, medicine. Powerful, sad to have finished it.
