what are you eating??

Pierre at Le Palace used to like to serve a Lentil special on the 1st of the month. He said that there was an old French tradition that eating Lentils on the 1st of the year would bring money. He figured that if it worked for January then it might work for other months too...

I might just have to give that a try.

I made Nutella and banana "Pop Tarts" using frozen puff pastry for our daughter who is home for the weekend. The idea came, I think, from Bon Appetit. Tomorrow morning, with good coffee and a lovely cantaloupe will be nice, I hope.

We are having halibut, asparagus, quinoa something or other, and strawberry rhubarb crumble. Fish came from Pike Place Market in Seattle-a thing of beauty. Rhubarb from there as well. Springtime.

Nice Rosemary. Can't get Halibut more fresh than there

We did, Amy! Back in New England, and that means the first bluefish of the season. It was cooked on the grill, between thunderstorms, and served with white beans and a green salad.

Esgargot and calves liver at the Black Pearl in Newport. Unusual Labor Day weekend meal, but delicious. Hmm.. very different menu from my previous.

I usually have the Nantucket Bay Scallops there, washed down with a bottle of de Ladoucette Pouilly Fume. Jasper White's Summer Shack, where I had late lunch/early dinner has dropped the de Ladoucette fom their wine list. Black Pearl - if they still carry it, it's been awhile since I've been there - and L'Esprit de Jean Claude Dufour are the only places where I can find it.

That is different. We had calves liver at home last week but I don't know about eating it elsewhere. Black Pearl is excellent so I'm sure it was good. Thick or thin?

Black Pearl people and their accompanying yacht have been in PTown for the past week...

came home with a seafood bounty....we didnt starve

Liver was thin and perfect. Tonight? Delivery pizza-thin and perfect. With a Greek salad. Kevin, I will stop by and check the Pouille Fume. Maybe a Fall or Winter get together for anyone interested...
