what are you eating??

An experiment-we are in the hospital for a bit and I have committed to hospital food, or food I can find within a few blocks, for the duration of our stay. Fruit and cereal for breakfast. Spinach salad for lunch. Chicken Marsala with rice and beans and broccoli for dinner. All good. Very good. Cost so far? $13.80.

Rosemary ------- I hope all is well! Hospital cuisine....hmm. I cherished every bite at the Newport Hospital, 'cause it was with my parents ....the food actually was awful ....but delicious ;-)

Maple-Bourbon Steak Tip from The Wine'ing Butcher in Meredith, Scalloped Potatoes from same, an inexpensive bottle of Chateau Saint-Pierre Côte de Provence from same, and a salad of Boston Lettuce and Roma Tomato from my local farm CSA basket. All were excellent. And yes, I said Steak Tip. Just one weighed 5 oz. before I cut it up into smaller pieces.

Thanks, Mike, for the tip on Wine'ing Butcher. We didn't scratch the surface of what they have to offer in the way of marinated meats and steaks, let alone their other items. For example, I thought that I knew Tabasco's product line very well, but I hadn't seen about 25% of what was being offered.

There's another location in Guilford, NH, and another location planned for Ashburn, VA.

excellent!!!..so the wine was ok????..

do you know how deadly it is having this place right down the street from the school I coach hoops at???.....I cant stay away from the place...when I had my first pre season practice last week and walked in, having not been there since the end of last season, they rolled out the red carpet!!...LOL

I just love the place...they sure do give new meaning to the term specialty foods

The wine was fine. I'm the only one in the house who drinks rosé, but that's OK - I'm a bachelor until Friday night. It was a pleasure to enjoy something that I wouldn't normally buy.

I don't know if I would call the meats deadly - my steak tip was nice and lean - but those scalloped potatoes, as tasty as they are, might be.

yeah they are lean.....and delicious....I'll pick up some of that wine Thursday when I am over that way

BTW their marinated Chinese pork loin is incredible to take home and grill

I would have bought more, but one of us wasn't that food oriented on Monday morning. I should have gone there on Sunday, bought more, and put it on ice. I had plenty of cooler space, and they sell ice at the Circle K....

If you guys (or anyone else here for that matter) are in the Concord, NH vicinity, i.e. corner of Rte 3 & 106, check out The Meat House. Small but packed with nice wines and specialty foods with a gorgeous selection of meats cut to order. Yummm...

It sets back from the road a bit, turn left off from Manchester Street/Rte. 3 onto Rte. 106. Same building as Veano's Italian Kitchen Restaurant.

very very near to Lena's fencing class building...and the selections look identical to WineingButcher's selections...I'll check it out

Teriyaki glazed Salmon with Wasabi mashed potatoes.

Salmon is one of those things I get to cook when Lisa travels.

First time making wasabi mashed potatoes.

Really good!

I think I could eat salmon every night of the week and never get sick of it...wasabi potatoes on the other hand, not so much.

comfort food all the way..

curried butternut squash bisque with a dollup of sour cream

pizza with a mushroom and grilled eggplant topping

I ve got this wonderful mulled cider going on too....with spiced dark rhum, gran marnier, tuaca, and vanilla rhum, and whole cloves and cinnamon sticks and ground nutmeg ...and Martin sent me some of this Apple wine so I tossed some of that in as well
