Dear Lord, Rosemary, I hope you are not suffering. I am happy you haven't lost your delightful sense of humor.

Sending you an enormous hug and a glass of the Malbec I just opened...it's no fun to drink alone.

xoxo

Malbec will be just right with with duck, the painkiller, Advil and the ice I am using right now. Thank you, J and J. Maybe they will let me bring the ice bucket home as a keep sake. Tomorrow is moving in day for our daughter into her new apartment. I will carry a book at a time.

OOH! Three of my favourites in the same glass!

Dinner tonight was at Jasper White's Summer Shack. PEI Summerside oysters (no Wellfleets available), Wellfleet Littlenecks, Jasper's signature Pan Roasted Lobster, and first-of-the-season Wild King Salmon with fiddleheads and almond rice. Major yum.

Alright... Maybe it's time I shared a few cocktail recipes I came up with over my many years of bartending:

Sex on a Mexican Beach (or the Caribbean Margarita):
Tequila
Triple Sec
Sour Mix
(yes, a basic margarita recipe) Add:
a splash of Midori, Chambord, OJ, cranberry & pineapple. Garnish with fruit.
Shake well...

Chocolate Chip (Shaken over ice, as a shooter, or frozen):
Dark Creme De Cacao
Hazelnut (Frangelico)
Half and Half
Whipped Cream
Combine ingredients (in shaker or blender) Shake like hell... For thicker (yumm) just use whipped cream. Garnish with a dollop of whipped cream. Try this one for breakfast!

Father, forgive me (is this a confessional?)

I was on the road and got two double cheeseburgers and a chocolate shake from MickeyD. No fries.

Naw. I ain't humble. I was starving and didn't want to waste time getting back home.

Tonight's dinner was a pre-planned and partly pre-made no-cooking dinner for a hot summer night... Grilled chicken breasts, cold and sliced, homemade red potato salad, and a garden salad with ingredients that included the red leaf lettuce, radishes, and farm-made herb vinaigrette that came in yesterday's CSA delivery.

Speaking of the CSA delivery, it included Kale. Does anybody have a good recipe for Kale? All that I can think of are soups or Kale Chips.

we just saute in olive oil and garlic with a splash of lemon....nice....and VERY healthy for you

Kevin-we simmer it in broth with garlic and red pepper flakes, chill, then add white beans and chopped tomatoes. You can add grilled shrimp or sausage... and serve the whole thing chilled and dressed with vinigrette with nice bread.

yeah we do that too as the weather gets cooler...we also do that with swiss chard and escarole

The "VERY healthy for you" part is why we chose to join the CSA. We want to eat more and better vegetables. The local CSA that we've joined (a very well known and popular local farm) uses Integrated Pest Management. I don't mind reducing my chemical intake.

You are welcome, Kevin. We had gazpacho and split a deviled egg. It's too hot to eat - never said that before. Nor have we ever split an egg.

good for you both...we currently have 2 CSA memberships...one veggie..one meat/dariy...both organic.. as well as we have a fairly extensive veggie garden ourselves....so so much better than grocery store crap

If you are talking chard, kale, escarole and rabe - pretty tough- I steam them first and then saute in olive oil and garlic. Or saute garlic in oil and then add some chicken stock and poach them in that. I add beans at the end to the escarole.

I have just joined a program that allows me to pick from a huge list of veggies, bread, cheese, meats, eggs, and coffee or accept the pre-picked items of the week. They will deliver right to my office every Tuesday. I am excited to get started.
