The Pedicure story

I called up a local hotel spa and made an appointment for a pedicure. a regular pedicure, no bells or whistles. I have been there before and wanted a nice pedicure before my travels this week.

I received an email within ten minutes asking me for my credit card info to confirm my appointment for a complete foot treatment plus polish. 170 euros.

I replied and said you must have misunderstood me. not sure what your complete foot treatment is, but all that I want is a normal pedicure with normal polish. I also told them that I have never paid more than 100 euros for this at any hotel on the island including theirs. ( I really like Christopher's spa, but the drive is too far tomorrow and I will be busy, the reason I called the other spa).

the spa replied almost immediately and said looks like you have not been here for awhile, ( it had been a year) so we will make an exception for you and only charge you 100 euros as requested and you may pay after, we will give you a regular pedicure plus polish. we look forward to seeing you.

I find this odd and a little funny, guess I will keep the appointment, and hope for the best.

kept the appt. the girl that did the pedicure was nice. however, it was a bare bones pedicure. when I go to the christopher hotel spa, the girl massages my legs and feet for at least ten minutes, plus she makes sure the bottom of my feet are nice and smooth. it takes about an hour. price is 105 euros


I am not naming the hotel I went to today, because its not the girls fault. she clipped my toenails, used an emery board to shape the nails and went directly to putting polish on my toenails. she touched nothing else about my feet. it was so odd. price 100 euros. it is what it is as they say.

Just for comparison, I just called the fanciest Relais and Château property near me and checked with the Spa. The pedicure price was $105, and most fancy Hotel Spas don't even do manicures and pedicures because of the OSHA requirements for ventilation.

Least expensive non gel pedicure at a local, very nice nail salon here: $35. (Gel is $55.) Nothing is inexpensive in CA, but hotel spas are usually pretty outrageous here. But certainly NOT 170 Euros!

I have found it harder and harder to get a good regular pedicure on island the past few seasons. I used to go to a hotel near me for years, but they have stopped doing "regular" nail polish and now only do semi permanent (gel) applications, which I do not want. So, then, I went to another well-known hotel last year, and they did a nice job, but this year they don't offer pedicures at all. This year, I went to a new (to me) hotel, and the price was very reasonable, but they did a terrible job. The polish was not applied correctly and looked bad in a few days. I don't know why it is getting so difficult, and the price keeps going up and up. BTW, no place I have ever gone has been anywhere near 170 euros!

Agreed! At that price, I'm taking a walk on Saline beach for exfoliation..by the time you slog through the entry walk, you'll look great!
