THE DAY OF THE JACKAL by FREDERICK FORSYTH

After the attempted assassination of former President Trump, I remembered a best seller enjoyed many years ago by award winning British author Frederick Forsyth. That classic international thriller was about a professional hit man out to kill France’s then President Charles deGaulle. Once again proving that there is nothing new under the sun. In any case, the story and the brilliant plotting hold up beautifully. . I was as engrossed in the workings of secret service, police, Scotland Yard, ace detectives and law enforcement agencies from multiple countries in trying to find this rifleman and avoid a killing.

Well written and still exciting. Enjoy.

Great movie (and book, although it's been decades since I read it)! The backstory is quite complicated, involving the Algerian war. After re-watching the movie a few years ago, I mentioned it to my teacher at the "L'alliance". She said her grandparents were "Pied Noires" and got a bit prickly, so the subject was quickly dropped. Apparently, even 60+ years later, the feelings are still raw. Here's a link to the actual attempted assassination site.

History repeats itself. We can not ignore the past as knowing world history will help us deal with the present.

I don't know about you; however I have read so many great novels over the years; that I find it harder to get into a novel now. I do read a lot of short stories.

I understand. There are many novels I have read that I no longer remember the plots. However, there are many good ones that manage tonsomehow linger in my memory.
