Ten Things We No Longer See In Airports

I don't miss the smoking at all. The free luggage carts were a nice touch as even most carry on does not have wheels

I miss standing on the tarmac at SXM outside the waiting area with our daughters years ago watching the planes land and take off. Not an observation deck, but still fun.

Ah, the good old days!

Fly outside of the US and you see many of those.

#1 Observation decks are still found all around the world. Check out http://www.spotterswiki.com/index.php/Main_Page

#2 Be a frequently flyer in Australia and your baggage tag looks like this

#4 There are a few airlines that offer Chauffeur-drive as part of your business/first-class ticket.

#6 They still exist somewhere, we hardly never use them as we keep our luggage small enough so that we can manage it ourselves :)

I keep saying that flying is still fun -- if you do it outside of the US and Europe. I'm amazed how well Australia and New Zealand has managed to avoid the western world craze, liquids are still allowed on domestic flights, no scrutiny of papers, and no belt/shoes/hats shows and e.g. NZ has defined in the law the need for security check so that all (most) the domestic flights don't require one.

I miss the greetings at the gate the most. Seeing a young man with a rose waiting for a girl to deplane...miss that alot.

That was the most striking thing about Australia and New Zealand -- families walking thru security (when it was present) to see someone off.

Airline passengers being greeted at the Tampa airport with a Welcome to Florida glass of OJ!

Arriving at the airport minutes before the scheduled time and making the flight and the plane actually leaving on time.

Late 90's one could be still on the train to Paris CDG when the plane was scheduled to leave and still catch the plane :)

Yep. Caught a few flights that way, back in the day. BTW, is that why OJ is in jail? Trying to rush through airport security? :devillaugh:

Petri - It seems to me that airports in France, Italy and Romania always seemed to run on "slower than Caribbean time." It was truly impossible to be late for a flight.

They need to compensate for their road behaviour :)

I also miss when airline personnel seemed to have more common sense and decency and everything wasn't a federal crime:

"Flight Attendant Refused Bathroom Access, 3-Year-Old Forced To Urinate In Seat"

"the pilot turned plane around and started to head back to the gate. He announced over the loud speaker that there was a non-compliant passenger on board, and they were bringing her to security" :nightmare:  (An example of airline paskan marjat, Petri?)
