Sailboat charter?

We are interested in chartering a sailboat on August 8 or 9 in St. Barth. I emailed two options I found online and both said their sailboats are out of the water for repairs in July and August. Does anyone have recommendations for someone I could contact, perhaps not associated with one of the larger charter/marina services?

In late 80's my grandfather used to walk down to Basils Bar in Mustique and meet people who had sailboats anchored in the harbor and hire one of them to sail us to Bequia for the day. Not sure if that kind of thing happens in St. Barths, but it was pretty cool as a young kid to be on a real sailboat for the day versus a fancy charter situation.

Most relocate boats to safer waters or haul them out for protection during the height of the hurricane season.

I am not sure you will find any sailboats for hire. Hurricane season haulouts to dryland and relocation to hurricane holes for safer anchorages. We know a few cruisers that head south, out of the hurricane belt to Grenada and surrounding.
It is amazing how few boats you will see in and around SBH August/September.
You may want to check with companies out of SXM as they may still run charters at this time. Moorings and Dream Yacht are the two largest international and many locally owned also.

They have smaller vessels that you can rent for the day. They also offer lessons. Great community service. We rent from them all the time. They have all water sports available.

Is charter boat owner ship a good idea? Is it a good investment?

How does one proceed? I know there are companies who can take care of your investment by looking after your boat and chartering it.

Anybody has any experience in eastern Med? Turkey and Greece.

Any reputable companies who deal with that? What to watch for? What are the biggest pitfalls?

What is the norm for payback period, return on equity etc, etc?
