Road Construction 2025

This map from the Collectivité shows the dates for much of the planned 2025 road construction. Note that the dates are in the European DDMM format, not the US MMDD format. Most sites will have alternating traffic, controlled by lights. The one which will likely cause the most pain is the section of the main road in Marigot, which will be closed in both directions until November 1.

Thanks, Kevin! Very interesting & informative. Do you happen to know meanings of the color codes?

Only as far as Red seems to indicate a complete closure (except for residents).

Here’s some additional info as it applies to Marigot, which also shows the detours. On this map the blue is flagged as a narrow road, banned for trucks over 3.5t, purple represents the detours, with the detour through Grand Fond being the suggested route.

WORK
----------
Excerpt from Order No. 2025-107-P
From Wednesday, April 2, to Friday, October 31, 2025, a portion of Route de Marigot, between the intersection with Montée Jonas Berry and Route de la Belle Normande, will be closed to both directions of traffic, except for residents near the work area.
Signs will be posted to warn and direct users. Vehicle parking will be prohibited on the section affected by the work.

East bound D209 going up Camaruche to Vitet was « route barrée » half the time we were there couple weeks ago. A huge PITA, which locals largely ignored.
Heard reports of Gendarme enforcements but never witnessed.

Dang. Our villa in May is smack between 3 and 4. Good news is there will be no traffic noise.

Reach out to your villa owner/agency and ask them if access is going to be a problem. It appears that it may be.

Thank you, Kevin! Much appreciated!

It looks like we (& guests), apart from the inconvenience of a detour, won't have any difficulty in getting to CEC, which is located at the intersection of the "blue" route and #3 on the map. In any event -- specifically thinking of Eve's note about the location where she's booked to stay in May -- I'm confident that visitors & villa owners along the "red" line (i.e., between points 4 & 3) will be allowed access on the route . . . as occurred when the Camaruche hill roadwork closed that stretch of road in both directions for a time.

Moreover, in recent conversation with a Collectivite official who is managing this project, he assured me that we'll always have access to the Villa.

I’m just afraid I will drive all the way there from the airport through Lorient and will have to go all the way back around through Grand Fond to get there. And will have to do that every day to get to St Jean.

Also, it says no parking and I think those houses on the beach park on the street.

Are you not comfortable that the detour through Vitet will be open?

Houses along the road have off street parking. It’s very unusual to have anyone parking on the road.

It seems we took that blue road in last 2 weeks.
Our villa is in St. Jean and the 2 times we dined at Ti Corrail we took the scenic grand fond way to get there.
Heading home we went towards Marigot and were directed to go by way of what looks like the blue road on the map.
It was a 2 way road and was quite lovely and scenic. We wandered around for a bit and ended up at point 5 then 6 on map and headed down through Lorient.

It’s the road that cuts down from Vitet to Marigot—where trois forces was. It’s a pretty direct detour. Drive up the main road to Vitet
and after the dip down and up (bridge) you will see a sign for Marigot on left. Turn left and at bottom you will be in Marigot. Same on the return though we drove back via grand fond.

Dennis, Do you know how difficult is that "blue" road from Vitet? Is it one car wide?
Not difficult, Leon. Only slightly narrower than your basic SBH roads! I use it all the time . . . historically, in many visits to Trois Forces . . . today, to visit Vitet friends,

Greetings! Any update on the construction in Marigot? We arrive on October 16th, and the villa is on the road to Vitet from Grand Cul De Sac
