Our First St. Barts Trip!

i, for one, would buy any story you wrote, jl. you have a way with words! i mean, what a picture these words paint: As we were walking from Flamands to Petit Anse one morning, we watched an elderly French lady with her ankle-length dress and sun hat on…her small house was on the little hillside just next to the ocean next to Flamands, the beach she was facing as she collected eggs from the chickens and placed them in a basket. Had she looked up, she would be staring directly at a high end hotel (Isle de France, I think) at the other end of Flamands. I found this inter-twining of lifestyles intriguing.

please....write the story!!

I wrote this trip report sometime ago (I used a different username... it was a longtime ago) and just came back to read it 5 1/2 years later. My wife and I were reminiscing about St. Barth's yesterday and vowing to make it back a second time. It seems like a longtime from now, but I'm thinking our 25th anniversary in 2017 will be perfect (finding babysitters for a week just isn't easy). Coming back to this forum again brings back such great memories of planning and reliving the trip. It is so great to see many of the same folks still so active here and sharing their love of St. Barth's!

I'm so glad you reposted. I never read it the first time. I started getting confused when you mentions Victoria's

John, Re-reading your report is like a refresher course about St. Barth. You captured the essence of the St. Barth experience. Of course, you
must return---2017 may seem like a long way off but it gives you time to dream and plan. The island will be different and yet the same. You'll bring to it your own magic. Nice to have you back on
the forum. Give us a post from time to time.

Thank you for this wonderful reminder of all I love about this island. We are planning our 10th trip for 2015 and it never ceases to beckon with the very moments you capture in your report so well. I am sure you will be back to rediscover and newly discover all the small pleasures of St Barths.

Great report. We went to St. Barth's the first time for Liz's 40th birthday. I'm sure like us, you will return many times.

Thanks again for a lovely report. I hope you do come back in 2017 and then write that great story!! You'll find some things have changed, as everywhere, but the island's special vibe is still present.

I will pile on and say what a great trip report from way back when. My wife and I came for our honeymoon. Every time we have been back since has been not as a couple as we have brought kids and other family members and friends. Your write up makes me realize how great it would be to come back with just my lovely wife. It would be wonderful to just share the time with her without all the distractions of playing parent or host. Our 25th isn't until 2019 so I think I'm going to have to plan a trip for just the two of us before then and the kids be damned! Lol

Bkeats, I bet the island would feel quite new again. Planning will be new too. Just choosing a villa for a private romantic anniversary soiree will be so different than planning for a family vacation. Your list of perfect family villas will have to be refreshed with new needs and desires. Do you have a private, romantic, villa list that is just perfect for 2?

Here are some of my key ingredients: view, privacy, fine furnishings, cozy/romantic feel (all white décor doesn't work for me), private outdoor spaces with comfortable lounge furniture and pool, great lighting (indoor and outdoor), outdoor shower, the perfect height bed to give massages without getting a backache yourself, nice stemware and kitchen accessories. Villa Haute Maison ticks all the boxes for me.

J - your list sounds good to me other than I do like white especially when there are no kids. But you have highlighted an interesting point. Every time I've looked for a villa recently, its been for a 3-4 bedroom place that can accommodate a range of interests. Very different if its just me and the bride. I suggested doing this to my wife next March. She's not yet ready to leave everyone else behind. Have to keep working on her.
