Freighter Aground, Water Production Shut Down

Le Journal is reporting that a cargo ship carrying containers ran aground on the rocks near the commercial port. The ship was supposed to be at anchor overnight, before delivering containers this morning. The ship has been pulled off the rocks, and is at the quay in the commercial port.

The ship ran aground near the intake for the desalinization plant, which has been proactively shut down, at least for the weekend.

The good news is that no serious injuries have been reported.

More good news, due to the rains most cisterns are full so life goes on. How fast the desalination plant gets up and running is another issue.

Thank you, Kevin and Amy.

We had no idea. Having arrived five days ago, we assumed the cisterns are full as everything is very green and have had some rain, but that is good information going forward.

This forum has always been very helpful to us.

Llyn, most villas operate off of their cisterns whenever possible. Cistern water is free, except for system maintenance costs. “City Water” from the desalinization plant is expensive, much more so than city water in the US.

Some might find consuming cistrern waters disagreeable. Personally, I have been drinking our cistern water without any issues. If concerned: Boil your cistern water prior to "direct" consumption or buy expensive bottled water. (remember your ice cubes) I cook with cistern water as most of the time the water will have been boiling. I rinse/wash vegatables with our cistern water. Showering, brushing teeth with cistern water should be just fine. My $.02
