Bonjour to all! It has been some months since I have been on the blog but, (the good news) I got some unexpected free tickets (merci, Delta) to come down mid January for a week. The bad news: we are late, we are checking into the hotel and (gulp!) villa situation, and I kind of freaked out at the SXM debacle, not to mention Dengue on the rise (mosquitos love me )! I collected a lot of "Mosquito Milk" so I can bring it but it seems we might need the supercharged bug juice this time. I actually questioned myself as to whether it is worth the effort but I knew you all would be able to clarify the situation.
We always use Vincent Premium IV to go through SXM both ways but even with that, if Vincent is still doing it, it seems to be dicey at best. I will write him to see if he is available or if it still works at SXM. Our plane would land at 3:05 pm so we might have to overnight in SXM...but then I would not freak about making the last flight, even if it were available. I did not even check Winair yet; was waiting to see what you all thought on that subject. It seems that going back is even more of a challenge, too! But it is hard to turn down the tickets (worth $10.5K!). The island is becoming more expensive and I am thinking it might be nice to try somewhere besides Le Guanahani for a change after 20 years. Your suggestions are welcome for sure! Some new restaurants seem amazing, especially Ocean Club, but so many have closed, too. (Missing Santa Fe...)
Staying at a hotel or villa without a beach might be a challenge and we will need a rental car. Le Guanahani did all that and more for us, so if you have had good luck with other hotels or villas that can do that and give you beach equipment to use at the local beaches, I'd appreciate you letting us know.
Thank you in advance for any advice you would like to pass along or recommend and thank you all as always for making this the very best place to find info..even after 20+ years, there is always something new to learn. It would be great to see you when we are down there and greetings to all for a fabulous holiday season. BTW, Dave is getting married Dec. 9th! I'm really going to need a vacation after that!
