A running beach sargassum report

Flying over yesterday I could see the sargassum in the water but not nearly as bad as previous trips. I thought I would provide reports on the beach conditions as a public service. We went to Saline today. Wasn’t too bad. A bit of weed at the high tide line. Some in the water. You could still make out the tractor tire tracks so it must have been cleaned up in the morning. More weed to the Eastern end. The western side was much better but that bit of little beach beyond the rocks was deep in weed.

When we were just there the only time we were troubled by it on the beach was Flamands. No real issue elsewhere, though we didn't go to Saline.

St Jean beautiful as usual and clear today

Nao looks so polished compared to the old Lil Rock. Didn’t have the heart to try Nao so instead went to Le Jardin for lunch where we had a table side companion looking for handouts.

Thanks etx. I had to replace my phone and upgraded to the iPhone 14 pro. Been playing around with the camera settings. Quite pleased with the quality of the pictures. Don’t need to bring a separate camera anymore.

Try shooting in RAW and see even greater detail. RAW files take up a great deal of storage, so use sparingly on special targets.

I can’t believe that’s with an iPhone!

Went to Ti Corail for lunch. This place has fast become one of our favorites. Casual place. Friendly service. Great food. Did a quick scan of the beach. All clear here though it usually is so not a surprise.

Keeping in line with our recent chicken encounters, a mother hen and her chick came by

Heading out to the beach yesterday (Friday) we had a little roadblock that had to be moved.

Made our way to Lorient where no sargassum was around

IMG_5046.jpeg

However the lack of sargassum was offset by the giant villa that wraps around the surf shack. Looks like a giant bunker or as Phil described a concrete prison.

Less is more.

Then today another tortoise maybe a cousin decided to slow our exit.

After picking it up and depositing it on the other side of the road we headed to Gouverneur.

The score so far - Chickens 3 Tortoises 2

There was some sargasso weed by the entrance and the middle

The far end was beautifully clear though

I’ve missed a few days of reports. We did our obligatory stop at Grand Fond. Rugged beautiful spot with lots of weed on shore and in the water.

Then off to Corossol. This is such a sweet beach. Almost no one there. Water is crystal clear. Smooth for swimming. Decent snorkeling too.

Went to Gouverneur again today. Absolutely gorgeous. No weed and very calm with just the smallest rolling waves. Beach was very crowded though. Looks like all the French schools must be on break as there were a lot of families. Forgot to take a picture.

After lunch we made our way to Petit St Jean. All clear of weed though lots of people again. There were more people in the water than I can recall seeing given it was late in the afternoon. All the new beach front restaurants have made what was once a quiet bit of beach packed. It‘s hard to make out the people in the water in the photo but they’re there.
