A new florist — La Petite Fleur

A new florist on St Barths! You should know about it.

History: The primary — even only, I believe — florist in recent years has been Bloomy — a stalwart in design, service, & quality. In the past, there was the (a) very high-end (& exquisitely beautifully-presented) offerings of “Varda” (by appointment only) & (b) prior to its sale (& unfortunate swift closure) a couple of years ago, La Vie en Roses.

Today: I’m happy to observe the opening of La Petite Fleur in St. Jean . . . in the row of shops next to Sayolita & my favorite hair cutting salon, MG Studio. The proprietress of La Petite Fleur, Alba Moscato, was with Bloomy for a number (several?) years &, in true entrepreneurship, is spreading her wings.

Fresh flowers are near & dear to my heart! Growing-up in a home where my mother loved & fostered flowers in the small yard of our house, it is a “natural!” In intervening years, my enjoyment of them grows. Competition on SBH, thus, makes me happy as I contemplate an orchid or small bouquet at CEC when there.

Alba, BTW, has a notable Dad — Vincent Roscato, famed rugby star . . . of course, an acclaimed sport on SBH.

Finally . . . a thought that brings me to post about the floral business on St. Barths is terribly heartfelt memories of the kindness of our Moderator, Kevin, & spouse Kate in years when my mother visited at CEC with Wendy & me after my Dad died. In those years, Wendy & I also were proprietors of “The Normandie” in Lorient. Longtime Forum participants will remember the time — youthful energy & appreciation of St. Barths shared with wine & hors d’oeuvre for friends at any occasion . . . falling of a leaf, dropping of a hat, opening a door! Deeply felt appreciation still is remembered for the sentiments of Kevin & Kate in always bringing a LARGE bouquet of fresh flowers to Mom on each of these festive occasions . . . making her welcome to the island especially grand! A toast (Veuve Clicquot, of course!) to you.

Flowers . . . a special language!

Gifts of flowers, in our experience, are always well received. Dennis, we adored your mother, a grand lady, and it was our pleasure to share our memories of our own mothers by bringing flowers to your mother. Thanks for telling us about this new florist. I don't know when we will visit there, but there is a good chance that we will visit there.

I love this story! Kevin and Kate are truly generous, which you have demonstrated with your story. We still owe them Veuve Cliquot (pink?!) due to their generosity. My Mom always had fresh flowers in the house, too, and it brings back so many memories. Thank you for sharing a lovely tradition of fresh flowers, which brighten everyone's lives! I look forward to seeing this new florist.

Great story, and great news about the new flower shop. I always like to have fresh flowers in the house and Bloomy has always been great, but it is nice to have a choice. Can't wait to check them out!

Do you know if they have a web/faceboook/IG presence? I couldn't seem to find one.

I’m glad to see a fresh floral option on the island—gives me more choice for gifts and events. I’ll check out their style to see how it fits my taste.
