Uh Martin.....

I wonder if the driver suffered a heart attack/stroke or some such? Difficult to explain otherwise...

oh please...spare me ......

really??????

a few years ago we had a guy stick the gas pump nozzle in a rod holder instead of the fuel fill .......if his automatic bilge pump wires weren't insulated well he would have blown us all to kingdom come as he put 200 gallons of gas in his bilge .....as it was we needed to close the marina for a few hours and deploy Fire department, coast guard, and DEP to deal with it all

last week an Australian father and son bought a sail boat on EBay in Rhode Island with zero sailing experience and left for an 8000 mile journey right into the teeth of a blizzard, which required a very risky Coast Guard rescue at sea.....the boat sunk

I got a few hundred more stories if you d like

and you really wonder how this happened ????????

Yeah, I saw the sailboat story...allegedly, you could see light thru the transom...

Lots of single operator vehicle crashes are HA or stroke related. I just find it tough to believe that someone would be clueless enough to run full bore thru the FOG onto a beach...

Believe it .....My buddy who is the U.S. Towboat rep in P Town works overtime on foggy days pulling boats off both Race Pt and Long Pt .....

I m petrified fishing out on foggy days in high season ....especially the unpredicted ones .......because I kniw there are essentially gasoline loaded missles all around me.....unguided....rogue.....

Some of them really truly have no clue...none....zero ...nada.....

Mike,

I am sure you know the later story happened off of Nantucket which resulted in putting Coast Guard folks in harms way. What is up with these idiots who put others lives at risk? KR

I'm starting to think user fees might be the way to go for crap like this.

Gonna be an idiot, on a mountain or in the ocean?

Pay for rescue.

I was in Newport the day the Ebay boat left. People were horrified. Is it possible for the Coast Guard to "arrest" a boat leaving in conditions and circumstances that can only end badly? That was the disgusted suggestion of many who watched this unfold.

Not only is it possible but it's what happens a lot.....unfortunately though only in summer season ......Coasties have numerous patrol boats doing "safety checks" and if the boat fails it is escorted back to the Dock or mooring it came from and its registration is pulled ....but the checks are random so someone can slip through the cracks ....however the Coasties are good at knowing "the look" of a boat who should not be offshore and targets them

The guy driving the boat was a licensed charter captain with what seems to be a bad reputation. The boat was not his. I drove over the Skyway bridge that afternoon (about 5:15 pm) on my way home from work and the fog was horrible. They even closed the Port of Tampa for awhile it got so bad.

As to the four 300 hp outboards, I was at the Miami boat show two weeks ago and this is becoming the norm, especially in Florida. Mercury now has 350 and 400 hp outboards , and a new company, Seven Marine, has 557 and 627 hp outboards.

"The Coast Guard will determine whether his captain's license will be revoked." :)

there is nothing to determine....revoke it'

its just a "six pack" license anyway which isnt real....its a joke...Lena could pass that test.....a meaningless piece of paper....

If that happened on my license I would have to give urine and blood for testing within 2 hours of the incident and have a formal hearing within 30 days....and it would be bye bye license....

just take the damn thing so he doesnt kill someone in the future

The big center consoles with trip and quad outboards are all the rage here in FL, and have been for awhile now. They have practically taken over the boat show. With the warm weather we have most of the year, people want to be able to run far and fast to fish places like the middle grounds or Bahamas. Up North these boats would be miserable most of the year.
