Powerful story set in Ireland during the post WWI pandemic, The Spanish Flu. The setting is a public hospital, poor and so overly burdened. We follow a 30 year old newly assigned nurse. She ends up in a makeshift maternity ward as all hands are tied up with influenza. A horrible tale of Influenza and the fight to save lives. So well written you can see and smell the wards and the patients. This is the author who dazzled us in 2010 with ROOM.
