If there were bears, they might be sensitive to big weather changes, as many animals are, and they might be watching...

    Tropical storm Laura, actually.
Forecast to become, perhaps, a hurricane when it reaches the Gulf.

Closest Point of Approach, the last time that I checked, was just after 01:00 on Saturday morning.

    One noisy night for sure!

We are safe and dry and planning for an indoor day. A good book, some good tunes, and a Nap all sound good.

stormy night, wind was not too bad, but lots of rain. cistern overflowed for the first time since Eloi built the house in 1973. very surprising, we switched to cistern water this morning. still raining right now, should diminish soon.

Diana- What do you use the cistern water for?

There is evidence there was a bear behind our home sometime overnight.

To the engineer the glass is simply too big.

we always turned on the cistern water when they shut off the town water for any reason. also after the hurricane in 2017, it was a lifesaver as no town water was available for quite some time. use it for cooking, showers, etc. we are now on cistern water after last night. this is so odd as the cistern is huge, so surprised it overflowed.

Is there’s filter between the cistern and the faucets

no filter, we do add clorox every so often. we boil any water before using it for cooking. most of the time for cooking we use bottled water anyway.

we also use cistern water for everything except drinking water and making coffee... way too expensive to use city water if you don't have to...

TS Laura is mostly out of the 'hood.

As to potable water, I assume that every villa which I rent is using cistern water if at all possible (cistern=free, city water=€€€). I trust my island-born villa owner to handle the cistern properly. I drink bottled water, and I brush my teeth with bottled water. My vacation cooking is limited to Cheese Scrambled Eggs with Veuve Clicquot Mimosas, so there is no water involved with cooking. For me, cistern water is fine for other purposes.

I've been known to bring home a half-bottle of water from a restaurant meal and to water a few plants/trees with it. I sometimes wonder if the water is too pure for them, but I'm pretty sure that they won't spit it out.

I grew up on well water so hard it wouldn’t make soap lather. The house was plumbed to use cistern water for bathing and laundry. The cistern worked well until a small mammal would invade and expire. Then it was time for Old Settler

Thanks. The "cone of uncertainty" narrowed overnight, so we'll probably have minimal effects. Points east will not be so lucky. Expected 150mph at landfall with a storm surge to reach about 40 miles inland.
