Flights canceled to SXM

We have been here on SBH since Wednesday. We were scheduled to fly back to KC from SXM through CLT. I called AA this morning and was told that all flights on all airlines from SXM to CONUS are cancelled. We’ve been rebooked on a flight from SXM to MIA on 3/27.

so you are extending your rental till then? might be less expensive to catch tradewinds to sju

Yes, for now. We have travel insurance that will cover it, at least for 7 days. WiFi and iPhone and can work remotely. Thx for the idea tho; I noticed that despite AA’s claim to the contrary, there appear to be flights back to CONUS via SJU on at least United, maybe other carriers.

Delta also seems to be maintaining at least their daily SJU/JFK service with 3 non-stops still listed. I'm sure there will be cancellations and combining of flights, and things will probably be changing on a day to day basis. It's a good idea to check your carriers website on a daily basis, but obviously any travel right now will be problematic.

Carefully heed how rapidly things have evolved when making plans for the upcoming days and weeks. Google back one or two weeks to articles written then about regions upon which the pandemic has descended. Steps taken thus far have been inadequate (and predictably so)) in slowing the exponential spread of the virus.

Thanks so much for the info! Although our trip is cancelled, we understand it's for the safety of all. We will miss St. Barts this year.

We were booked on American Airlines coming down and Delta going home. American Airlines is saying online that we can rebook a year from Ticket issue or December 31, 2020 whichever comes earlier. In our case it appears we have to rebook before December 31, which means that we cannot use the credit for a rebook for next march, we have to use it for another trip before deadline. I think I am understanding the policy correctly. Delta, on the other hand has issued us a full refund for the cancelled flight home.

Check the wording carefully. I don’t consider “rebook by” and “fly by”
to be the same thing.

Just received this notification from Tradewind on their current situation:

Dear Friends,
We hope this note finds you well during this challenging time. I believe Kevin is correct. I used a canceled trip from last June 2019, it was purchased in March of 2019. I had to rebook prior to March 2020, using the rebooked tickets for travel July 2020 to Hungary. I fulfilled the rebook time within 1-year however, the travel will be in excess of 1-year. All approved by United. Albiet, it took some time on the phone with United two weeks ago.

Does anyone know or have info on St Barth Commuter cancellations and/or WIMCO cancellations as of this time for upcoming (April) travel?

Check the wording carefully. I don’t consider “rebook by” and “fly by”
to be the same thing.

on the AA website it says "Travel must start by December 31, 2020 or within 1 year of date the ticket was issued, whichever is earlier."

I think I will wait a bit and then just call to clarify. Hopefully they will be flexible. Although my husband and I are considering a trip in the Fall, after this crisis has hopefully dissipated, for a little R &R. Maybe we can use the credit then. A little silver lining to look forward to.
