I revel in the opportunity to learn about little-known heroes and heroines of the past. This book highlights the true but under-the-radar tale of the Kindertransport and the woman who made it possible. Truus Wijsmuller was a childless Dutch woman who smuggled hundreds of Jewish children out of Nazi-occupied lands. Many countries in Europe closed their borders to the escapees. It was a perilous time. Although written as a novel, the story tries to stay as close to the actual events as possible. The description of this book as a “powerful” read is an understatement. One wishes more details were known about the courage and determination of this remarkable woman.

Julianne...thank for the tip. A thoroughly heartwarming and at the same time heartbreaking story about the WWII Kindertransport to save Europe’s children from the horrible Nazi scourge.
