Build Affordable Housing, Vanquish Socialism

is how this article from Dealbreaker (who may need a copy editor...) dryly summed up an investment opportunity that was described in this article from Bloomberg:

"Ex-hedge fund manager plans to start $50 million property fund. Strategy is to build affordable housing and luxury villas... Now he’s looking to cash in on demand for homes on the Caribbean island best known as a holiday destination for the rich and famous. He aims to raise $50 million to acquire land for development and to renovate existing properties. In addition to building high-end luxury villas, Hendry also plans to build affordable homes to help address what he called a “housing crisis for the working community” on the island. The fund, based in Luxembourg, could deliver annualized returns of at least 10% for investors, he said...."

If he follows through on both ends the island should benefit. Hopefully he starts with the affordable housing for local workers to show that commitment.

Affordable housing is great. St. Barth is not in need of any more high end luxury villas, IMO. Just nuts...
