THE GOLDEN SON by Shilpi Gowda

This story takes lace in modern day India. A poor farming family, is there any other kind, has a son who is bright and destined to become a doctor. His struggles, the family conflicts and the structure of class and poverty all come into play. Will he keep on a career path where he attends medical school, or will he go back home.

Wonderful characters and a look into a society I knew little about. Also recommend SHANTARAM and A FINE BALANCE for further unforgettable and well written stories set in India.
