The Réserve Naturelle ATE, the Nature Reserve, part of the Territorial Agency of the Environment, has instilled a hydrophone in the reserve in order to record the singing of the whales.

Farewell to Tarwathie, from Judy Collins brought whale "songs" some popular attention in 1970. i was more drawn to Cosmos Factory than Judy's Whales and Nightingales but her album was better received in my house... The tape of the whales had been given to her by Roger Payne. NPR tells a bit of the story of Roger and Katy Payne, who are credited with decoding whale sounds as songs, and provides some of their recordings here.
