We are here on St Jean right now. Looking out off our balcony, 99.9% sargassum free.

Not a nice sight. Hope they can do something about the mess on a regular basis. It seems to be worsening by the year.

Consensus cause of recent sargassum invasions is that increased discharge of organic matter and nutrients from rivers, mainly the Amazon, as a result of defosteration has led to formation of a new 'Sargasso Sea' off Brazil - its tail extends to the West Indies. Warmer water temps have been conducive to growth.

Hoped to be a seasonal anomaly a few years back, sargassum invasions of the Caribbean are expected to remain regular occurrences.

Not a pretty sight from the air as we neared the islands. Bigger clumps and floating rafts of the stuff than I remember seeing in the past.

Spotted from the air as we approached yesterday. Sure is a lot of it in the water..huge rafts of it and long strings of it. Not a good thing.

It changes with the tides. If your beach is invaded with it, just go to another.

I agree with Amy . . . from day to day, very difficult to predict where you’ll find it, & the Collectivié is very good about jumping on clean-up of stuff that washes ashore.
