The transatlantic sailing race La Transat AG2R La Mondiale takes place every other year, with 2-person crews sailing 33-foot Figaro-Beneteau sailboats between Concarneau in Brittany, and St Barth. For the past few races there has been an SBHOnline contest to predict the winning boat and time. I'll post the contest rules, which have not changed:

The contest is to pick the winning AG2R La Mondiale boat and closest time of arrival as recorded at the official arrival in St. Barth. Each member can pick only one boat and one arrival time in even hours. Once a member picks that boat and time, no member can pick that boat within one hour of the original entry. For example, Tim picks -

LES PERLES DE ST BARTH 14:00 MAY 12, 2018 Tim

JEK could later pick the same boat but only so long as the arrival time was one hour different, e.g. -

LES PERLES DE ST BARTH 15:00 MAY 12, 2018 JEK

Dennis could then pick-

LES PERLES DE ST BARTH 13:00 MAY 12, 2018 Dennis

If LES PERLES DE ST BARTH comes in ahead of the fleet at 13:31 on May 12, Tim wins the grand prize - except that Tim, as a moderator, is disqualified.

The opportunity to pick your winners WILL BE ANNOUNCED when the first vessel is within approximately 1,000 miles of St. Barth. That opportunity will close once the first vessel is within 500 miles of St. Barth. Those parameters should present a window of at least 48 hours in which to choose your winner.

Please note that in the event of any questions, the decision of the site Moderators is final.

The GRAND PRIZE will be a bottle of Veuve Clicquot, donated by SBHOnline site-owner WIMCO to be picked up at the WIMCO SBH office in St Jean. I’ll add to that a Veuve Clicquot St Barth Arrow Tin, usually only available during the Les Voiles Regatta (sorry, the tin will be empty, as I have no legal means to ship alcohol).

Here are some links which are full of race-related information. Most information is in French, so being a bit bilingual or an adept user of http://translate.google.com will help:

There is a GeoRacing app in the Apple app store which provides the same or similar map/position information.

Good luck to all who choose to enter! I expect that entries will open sometime in the next 2 weeks - earlier if it's a fast crossing, later if not.

Entries are not yet open, and the opportunity to make an entry will be announced when the first vessel is within approximately 1000 nautical miles of St Barth.

We're getting close to the opening of the contest.

Agir Recouvrement, the race leader, has sailed 214 miles in the last 24 hours. At that pace, the contest will open for entries sometime on Sunday morning, when the lead boat will be approximately 1000 miles from the finish. The contest will remain open until at least sometime on Tuesday, when the lead boat will be approximately 500 miles from the finish.

La Transat Ag2r La Mondiale is a race from Concarneau in mainland France to St Barth. It takes place every 2 years, using 33-foot Figaro Beneteau 2 boats with 2-person crews. For the 2018 edition, 20 boats registered. One boat (Interaction) did not start due to a medical issue. A second boat (Saferail) retired from the race due to a back injury to a crewman. 2 other boats (Macif and Sateco - Team Vendée Formation) were dismasted off the coast of Portugal and were forced to retire.

The fleet will soon reach the point where the pick-the-winner contest opens.

Each boat has a crew of 2, a skipper and a navigator. Many of these sailors have participated in the race before. Most if not all are professional sailors, who have participated in other endurance races. Most are male, 3 are female, and there is 1 all-female team (Teamwork.Net). Most are French, with a Swiss, a French/German, and an Irish sailor in the mix.

Here are the names of the 5 boats which presently lead the race, the names of the skipper and the navigator, and a link to more detailed information on the team:

The contest is open for entries, and will remain open until 09:00ET on Tuesday, or the lead boat is within 500 miles of St Barth, whichever is later. Please submit your choice of boat name, date, and hour for your entry.

We have our first two entrants:

As of 13:00ET, Agir Recouvrement is still holding onto the lead, but only by 3.1nm. With 955nm to go to the finish line, I think that any of the top 7 or 8 boats has a chance to win the race.

I don’t see how you could possibly pick a different boat!

Finish Times need to be in even hours, HH:00. I’ll put you down for 14:00. Let me know if you would prefer 13:00.
