The Bucket 2018

Got to the Docks at 7:30 this am to watch the boats crews prep for the day. An exciting time to see the harbor and boats coming to life. Randy is crewing today on Rebecca as on of for on the Mizzen Staysail team of 4. There are no spectators on her she is an all working crew. Did tell us that Maya’s will reopen June 1. Had a chance to also see both of our famous forum photographers there.

The 2018 Bucket winner is Nilaya, a 34 meter sloop launched in 2010 and built by Baltic Yachts. Here it is from the race.

I've done a bit of reading about J boats, but still am unsure as to how to distinguish a J boat from others that were in the Bucket races. Can someone give me a reasonably simple explanation of how one recognizes a J boat from others ?

While determination is really based on a formula that Herreshoff developed what you look for are the distinctive bow and stern that overhang the waterline significantly There are only 9 in the class Svea being the newest. That said One could look at Rebecca and think she was a J but she is a ketch not a sloop.
