This is an oldie pulled out of my island TO READ bag. 12 old books got wet and moldy, so I am down to my last few that have been here for years.

This is a gut wrenching powerful story of coming of age in NYC's Hell's Kitchen during the 1960s. Often brutal, but so well written that you feel for these four boyhood friends. Their loyalty never wavers as we learn about each of them and their family's heart breaking struggles, their year in a boys' detention home, and their emerging into manhood. Unforgettable read.
