Are Tradewinds and American working together? 10/16/17Bluemoon

We also just checked our American reservations for CHL to SBH in February and we've been redirected through Miami. We booked our tickets with miles and have purchased Winair tickets. Has anyone changed tickets purchased with miles? Any luck with refunds from Winair? We will rebook through SJU and Tradewinds. Do they work together? Luggage etc. After 38 yrs of going to St Barth we finally met our match in Irma.
Thanks everyone for posting so much. It's been very helpful.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no commercial relationship between AA and Tradewind.

There has never been an interline baggage agreement between the two, however Tradewind does offer a VIP service which will fetch your bags, and I think, transport you between the AA gate and the Tradewind check-in desk in an electric cart.

I've never looked at the Tradewind VIP service on the return.

You may be able to get a 1-year credit for future travel out of Winair, but I doubt that you'll get more than that.

We had a miles ticket and AA refunded them to our account with no penalty. Waiting to hear back from Winair about how they will handle honoring our tickets at a future date.

Tradewind VIP service is upon your arrival in to SJU which is extra fee over ticket price....we only use it if we have tight connection or checked bags.
They meet you and escort you to their quiet waiting area, which is a long hike if arriving on AA. Never had a cart but I am certain they can arrange one if needed..
If you have checked bags they retrieve them for you from AA baggage claim and put them on the Tradewind plane...you then are escorted from waiting area to plane bypassing any security.
Upon return you are escorted as a group by the agents from the plane through customs and such and escorted to AA check in or whatever major carrier you are on....no extra fee for that....

Everything we have heard indicates the extra fee for VIP with Tradewinds is worth it even if you have plenty of time between flights.
Good luck with WinAir. Their communication often leaves a lot to be desired.

Anther bonus of VIP is when agent greets you and you have long connection time they can get you on earlier plane if there is one about to leave...our last trip there was one leaving in 15 minutes after we landed and they radioed ahead and we moved quickly and made it...

We received an email response from WinAir on Saturday October 14 regarding our 12/2 SXM-SBH and 12/9 SBH-SXM. We asked for a credit. This is what we were told. It is unclear if the one year is from the travel date or the date we purchased. A follow up email was not returned.

"Please provide the reservation reference or ticket number.
We will proceed with cancellation.
when you are ready to rebook your ticket number is mandotary with you're new dates.
The tickets will remain open for use valid for one year."

Thank you everyone for all your advice. I was able to rebook and actually the new itinerary through SJU used fewer miles so we got some miles back. Tradewinds was wonderful. VIP is $150 for the two of us . Return VIP is "complementary ". I am looking forward to a quieter island like we had in the early 80's with fewer cars, fewer people, less landscaping and better views and fewer dining choices but a lovely less frantic pace. Thanks everyone again for insisting we check our flights. I too had checked last Friday and all was well.
