I am so glad I packed this paperback. A great read by an architect that tells the story of how one man designs hiding places for Jews in Paris of 1942.

He is asked by a gentile to do this one favor for him. Though himself a non Jew, he knows that the Jews of Paris are brought to Drancy and then never seen again. He agrees to build a secret hiding place and this new task he agrees to, leads to more favors asked.

A good picture of what Paris was like after the Germans seized control and proceeded to annihilate the Jewish population. This one man could and did make a difference in this novel. He saves the lives of children and adults and against his better judgement manages to become a righteous man. He does the right thing.

A very good story.

I thoroughly enjoyed Sarah's Key and this one sounds to be on the same plane. Thanks for the review, my pal...I love how you give just enough but don't give away anything.
