Dinner musings by Dennis

The tall guy has been very gracious tonight . . . sat with me at the bar for a drink / coffee when I stopped about 6 to make a reservation. At the last minute, his family canceled the July "bare boat" sail & went to Bonair -- said it was fabulous.

I'm back in the "garden" now . . . temperature under "the roof" must have been 10 degrees higher! And there is a table of 10 people, all of whom are smoking. Breezes in the garden are beautiful!

A mousse of celery, potato, leek, & a touch of curry, with herb-infused cream and a small slice of smoked Mahi Mahi on a toast point. Wine is a 2009 Haut Medoc . . , Jean Clayde's recommendation.

Paco, Julie, & their very well behaved young son (about 4?) are next to me . . . and a good crowd -- about 30 diners. Prix fixe of 55 Euros.

. . . two slices of foie gras & a spoonful of pear chutney. The foie gras is always the best on the island!

Duck spring rolls! (It started raining, so I've been moved under cover!)

. . . I'm afraid that the light doesn't do it justice, but my mouth is watering!

. . . table next to me of 5 people, each under 30 -- three young women, & two guys. One of the guys talked non-stop. The others never said a word, except to acknowledge hearing what he said. Of course, he walked into the restaurant with a beer bottle in his hand.

I'll always remember his story about finding a dead shark on the beach & putting it into the sleeping bag of a buddy on their camping trip. He also shared with his friends that his favorite meal is a bowl of rice mixed wth small black beans & finely chopped pieces of chicken.

. . . and why were they at L'Espirit? Am I a grumpy old man?

Very readable and enjoyable write up. You were not alone nor are you grumpy. I tagged along to enjoy this night with you.

Yum! Yum! and action-packed, to boot. One of the joys of solo dining is "enjoying" conversations of those around you. This is one for the record books. :thinking1:

Thanks for the help, John . . . a very nice evening. Wendy & I are returning on Saturday for last dinner of this trip. Today will be "closing" luncheon at La Gloriette -- Sandra, off to Europe, Noah (at 3! . . . which is the way it is on SBH) starts school . . . I think that Nadine (formerly of Manu's Wall House) is going to stay at La Gloriette for next season, though she finds it to be much more work . . . long time "Barman," Chloe, will not be returning -- she's going to be serving breakfast next season at Tom Beach, where her boyfriend also works . . . and Romain will return after a vacation in the Cognac region of France.

Ver-r-r-r-r-y interesting story and lovely food porn!! Thanks for the double treat!

Delightful recounting of your dinner, Dennis. The food looks great and, of course, the ambiance is perfect. Except...Isn't it startling when you can overhear another table's conversation and, often, there is one dominant voice (or should I just say"loudmouth")! Hilarious!
