BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Monday February 8, 2016 – The French island of St Barthélemy (better known as St Barts) and Anguilla, a British overseas territory, are the most expensive destinations in the Caribbean, according to the latest survey from TravelMag.com.
The survey compared 30 popular island destinations based on their cost of accommodation this month.
The price for each destination’s cheapest available double room, with a minimum 3-star rating, served as the basis of the comparison.
In St Barts, visitors will have to fork out on average US$324 per night for the least expensive double room this February, putting the fashionable playground of the rich and famous in the survey’s top spot.
Trailing marginally in second place is Anguilla, with an average nightly price tag of US$285.
Another French overseas territory, St Martin, takes the third slot on the survey with an average cost of $261 per night, while another British overseas territory, the Turks and Caicos Islands, secured the title of the Caribbean’s fourth most expensive destination with Providenciales ringing in at an average of $247 nightly.
Bagging 30th place in the survey is the Dominican Republic’s capital of Santo Domingo. Averaging just $43 nightly, it ranks as the Caribbean’s least expensive destination.
Joining it in the affordability department are Punta Cana (also in the Dominican Republic), St Vincent and Curacao. All three average well below $100 per night this month.
The rates were established between January 13 and 15, based on research conducted on various leading hotel-booking sites.
