Long time lurker. First time trip report.
My husband and I had a great trip from 4/29-5/10/2015.
Flights: For our previous trips, we had flown on US Airways to St. Martin. They had the best price, but every single trip always resulted in some kind of delay or cancellation. This time, they didn’t have the best price. It must be related to the American Airlines merger. We flew with Delta, which is our preferred airline since we’re a Delta hub. Smooth transfer in St. Martin to St. Barth Commuter. On our return flight, watched St. Barth Commuter replace one of the tires on our plane, which delayed us about 30 minutes. Held my breath on landing...
Car Rental: We had always used Europcar before. At Jeff’s suggestion, we tried Gumbs. Great service. Great price. Odie was very friendly and helpful. She greeted us with two cold bottles of water, which was just what we needed after the hot flight.
Villa: We stayed at Flamand Blue for the fourth time. Jeff, the owner, is very hands-on and is a great resource. Very reasonable price for what you get. Love the view of Flamand and convenient location. We’ve stayed at the Normandie Hotel and Le Toiny before, both great, but Flamand Blue is our favorite out of those three.
Beaches: Gouveneur is typically our preference, but it was mostly covered in seaweed this time. Lots more seaweed on many of the beaches than on our previous trips. We still got to enjoy Saline, St. Jean, Flamand (unusually calm water this time around), and tried Colombier for the first time.
Food: The best part of St. Barts! It has been more than a month since we’ve been back and it’s all kind of a blur. Here are restaurants we’ve been to on previous trips that we went back to: La Langouste, Les Bananiers, Eddy’s, Le Gaiac, Santa Fe, Do Brazil, Taiwana, On The Rocks, Le Repaire, Le Select, Le Vietnam
First time visit: Provenca, Jojo Burger, Le Tamarin, Bonito, Maya’s, Nikki Beach
All great experiences. Eddy’s is our all-time favorite.
