Memorial Day

Have a great weekend everyone...and just in case you didn't know:

Memorial Day, an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May, honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, at least, it marks the beginning of summer.

A big weekend for the Old Guard.

A wonderful story . . . I'm sorry that the writer never had a chance to know her brother, except through stories. However, what a tribute she has paid to him & the enduring patriotism of her immediate & extended families. His legacy -- and her words -- inspire not only patriotism, but also the values we find in America.

Incredible. The Marines landed in an Osprey helicopter after flying right over the house. Sounded like Glen Cove was under siege prior to it landing at the high school. A co worker's brother, a former Marine, is the Grand Marshall For Monday's parade. Semper Fi!

I've had the privilege of spending this weekend in Washington, DC, and find myself full of pride and gratitude for our soldiers, veterans and our fallen heroes. Families with young children, old dear ones, people from all over our country and the world are here to honor and remember...it has been beautiful and humbling.

We were traveling, but while waiting in the airport, we were happy to note lots of Scouts greeting servicemen traveling in uniform with, "Thanks for your service." It was a pleasure to see. We can't say "Thank you" often enough to our servicemen.
