It's not a question of don't do it, anymore, I don't think.. looks like the French civil aviation has requested it.. Ed's recent tap on the head may have been the deciding factor to make sure people don't get in the way of the planes.. seems like no one respects the signage on the beach to avoid the end of the runway...

I have never stood there. Perhaps it should read NOT EVERYONE. There are some people who just can not follow directions.
I think it's more like...oh those rules don't apply to me...like I'm too special.
I think its amazing the end of the runway wasn't protected for all this time.. it's very exposed and people are so tempted to take risks, we saw a guy barefoot in a bathing suit chasing a soccer ball off the runway looking over his shoulder as a plane came in for a landing... the pilots must hate things like that...
