Natural Pools and Cave

Swing around the east side of the island. Go past Toiny. Go past the "Nureyev" house along some great water wave sites. Before you see the turn on that stretch, back up and park in the small parking lot on the left. Follow the trail.

Of course, if you came in from the west - when ya see the water - turn around and find the trail "on the left, facing the ocean."

Here is Tim's description, from the "Timeless Tips" section of the forum---see walks/hikes section, # 7:

"7. Washing Machine/Natural Pools - Drive over the mountain at Grand Fond and head down toward the sea. You will come to a dog leg turn to the left. Do not make the turn, but park your car to your right in the small carpark(4 cars). Walk past the turn and take the path on your right that goes between a stone wall and the brush. When you come out on the stone beach, turn right and follow the sea and the path up the hill. Climb down to the natural pools when they come in site and take a dip if you're so inclined, but watch out for the black, spiny sea urchins."

So funny that these seemingly obscure directions make perfect sense. Growing up, we had a route to the best crabbing creek - "....take the path through the woods to Little Beach, go right under the grape vines and left around the poison ivy...when you see Uncle Lote's gravestone, walk northeast for two minutes... ".

For those old enough to remember F Troop, and with apologies to Koolmike for the minor thread hijack...

You take a right at the rock that looks like a bear, then a left at the bear that looks like a rock...

Nyuck, Nyuck, Nyuck and we're still here, repeatedly, to talk about it after finding our way back. No "F troopers here." The first visits and cruises around the isle harden you. Itsa a good and special.

Never, ever stop exploring. As always, stay safe and comfortable with a trek. IMHO, after the first dune, it's comparable to the lower route to Colombier.

Yep. I forgot to mention - don't go barefoot, avoid some old barbed wire, wear sunblock and then relish in having taken one of the coolest hikes on SBH.

I did ask this before and never got an answer: "Anybody ever follow the trails all the way west?"

(I haven't. Spent too much time doodling around in the ponds and then it started to get dark.)

Yes we have gone as far as Saline. But you can't stay too low. Just before the western most part of the point you have to go up high or it was too steep to get around. Even going as far west as you can go is nice. The point in a great view and you can see back to Saline. Where comfortable shoes and watch for cactus. Don't make mistake we did years ago and not take water.
