If you have never been inside Taiwana you are in for a surprise. That place is gorgeous -- simply over the top. As they say in some of their advertising: "Beyond any category."
We had dinner there last night at the newest incarnation of Pa Cri. The service was perfect, the food was good and the setting was beyond anything I would have even thought of.
Although we had a little difficulty understanding our Italian server, we were able to order appetizers of spicy King Crab that was really off the charts good and a special that consisted of three kinds of italian ham accompanied by a bowl of savory olives. The bread basket contained both the standard baguette and a ciabatta that was delicious. Our main courses were a mahi-mahi dish that was beautifully presented with crispy tempura fennel and another off the menu special, grilled veal chop. The mains were merely good, not great. Apps were delicious. We shared a tiramisu for dessert. It was very good.
Still the most dramatic part of dinner was the room itself. I cannot adequately describe it -- shimmering lights, water features, a soaring atrium, fine linens and huge white orchids on every table and every available flat space. Just gorgeous.
Although not the best meal we have had in St Barth, it was well worth the effort. The bill, not including wine, was 168 euros.
