One of the biggest fund raisers for AIDS Research.....a mile and a half swim from Long Pt to the West End Beach, in 60 degree water...I used to swim in it, but now I have a much easier task of donating the boat to ferry all the swimmers out to Long Pt...

somewhere in the middle...cool......

or as my Dad would describe it

he would take his thumb..extend it out...then fold it up and put it in his fist, and as he was doing it say:

"its that cold outside"

our water up here ranges from low 30's to mid 70's

Ok.. here it gets slightly above 20 C during July but that's about it. The sea and lakes are frozen from late Dec to March/April (the water under the ice stays at +3..4 C).

The city has annual Open House Helsinki days when people have an opportunity to visit interesting places. President's castle has been a traditional but last year Iraq Embassy (on the same street we live) was part of it as well. This year the icebreakers are also included. http://www.openhousehelsinki.fi/2011/eng/fr.html#1
