Verizon: It starts.

Oh, I get it.

they're goofing on the iPhone alarm brouhaha from New Years Day, right?

How brazen of Verizon....LOL

Verizon sent me an email yesterday telling me I can get one before everybody else since I'm a Verizon customer. Currently using BlackBerry. They tell me I can get the iPhone "beginning at $199" with 2 year contract.

I hope all the expected AT&T customers switch so I can get a signal other than Edge in NY.

I agree AT&T can't keep up with the load. I will stay with AT&T but saw somewhere that Verizon said 24% of AT&T users would switch. That's great.

I agree, let 'em go. My service improved when my neighbor, their EVP for External and Legislative Affairs, had a new cell tower put in his backyard :)

Rivertrash,

Last time I was at Bachelor's Gulch (2 years ago,) I (and nobody else) could not get a useable connection on any phone. Has that changed?

Nothing bettter than a cell tower in your neighbors back yard especially one you can't see.

is it at least disguised as a tree?

Yeah. We have a few of those around here "disguised" as trees and one at a cemetery trying to look like a massive flagpole (at least they fly the USA and state flag.)

Those disguised antennas are funny in the caribbean when they look like palm trees but are twice as tall as the others :D

Thanks to our engineering DNA even the carriers here think that if there's a place where a man can be, there should be coverage, and that microcells are carrier's excuse for not building a proper network. No wonder the forests look like a xmas tree from the plane

Yep.

I do appreciate the really big towers they have in the open stretches of the USA. Good coverage.

I like the free WIFI everywhere, too.

Verizon to Offer iPhone With $30 Unlimited Data Plan

The Wall Street Journal reports that Verizon will in fact be offering an unlimited data plan for the iPhone when the device goes on sale next month, pricing the offering at $30 per month on top of customers' calling plans.
It's official: Verizon is going to offer iPhone buyers a $30 unlimited data plan. The carrier's heir apparent and chief operating officer, Lowell McAdam, told us the news ahead of the company?s meeting with investors.

"I'm not going to shoot myself in the foot," he said. Not offering an unlimited plan would put up a barrier for customers who might otherwise switch from AT&T, he said.

The data plan offering may not be unique to the iPhone, however, as Engadget reports that the company is doing away with its low-end 150 MB data plan priced at $15 per month for 3G smartphone users, leaving the $29.99 unlimited plan as the only option. Verizon had just introduced the low-end plan in late October.

AT&T had offered a $30 unlimited data plan for iPhone customers, but switched to tiered pricing with the iPhone 4 announcement in June 2010, moving to a 200 MB plan priced at $15 per month and a 2 GB plan at $25 per month with no unlimited option available. Existing customers on the unlimited plan at the time of transition were grandfathered in and can continue on that plan, but new customers, as well as existing customers who have already switched to limited plans, can no longer sign up for unlimited data plans on AT&T.
