    Snapping Turtles

Thought people would find this as interesting as we we did. On June 15, just back from "guess where", first thing in the morning, we see a huge snapping turtle, digging a big hole right beside our pool.Went out to take a picture, and the thing jumped into the pool.Took Pat and me both, each with a leaf skimmer to get her out( before she shredded the liner with her claws !) and roll her down to the river. She must have weighed about 16 Kg !
Just went for a swim ( it's incredibly hot here in the great white north- way over 30 degrees, all week, yet again !)And what do I find, either in the skimmer, or trying valiantly to swim to the surface - 9 tiny snappers !!
We immediately got them into the river, and it looks like we saved most of them !!
There's a "turtle tally" connected to the Toronto Zoo, and they now have our pix of the big mama, and now the little guys !
    Amazing !

    Mike - can't this year
We are awaiting an old SBH friend for the
weekend ( if he gets off the island),
plus two others you know ( who value
their privacy - so no names)
Looks like our heatwave will die, but
we are too far inland to worry- but I wouldn't
want to live in NS, PEI or Newfoundland-they
are saying " big trouble" this weekend

No, I was using "Whistle Bait", the bait using a rod!
