had a fantastic dinner at trellis the other night.

i started with sauteed foie gras accompanied by a chilled mousse of foie gras and very juicy plum slices. while my dining companion had heirloom tomatoes, huge slices of mozzarella drizzled with evoo and balsamic vineager.

entrees were pork tenderloin atop a lima bean/corn succotash with a side of pork belly fat (yep...pork belly fat!) and drizzled with a root beer jus.

my friend had the lamb chops with polenta, sausage with a black garlic sauce and a side of anise-infused lamb stew.

we made a crazy decision to forego the death by chocolate and opted for the cheese course. neither one of us were very familiar with the concept of cheese as a dessert and decided to venture down a new path. we had two cow cheeses (a humboldt (sp?) and another one i don't remember), a sheep cheese and a goat cheese.

the course was paired with a sauterne, for me, and a pinot noir dessert wine, for him. it was very enjoyable, but i still like the idea of ending my meal with something chocolate!!

the restaurant is located smack in the middle of colonial williamsburg and is absolutely beautifully decorated.

thank you, amy, for bringing this restaurant into my brain! it is definitely a 'do over' !!

My bosom buddy moved to Newport News then Yorktown. When visiting with her, that is the SPECIAL place we go. Never had a bad experience. (That is other than the fact that she left my neighborhood for Virginia).

i usually only photograph my meals while on island, but these dishes were just too pretty to pass up....plus, i had my camera already as i spent more time photographing williamsburg earlier in the day!
