Tell us Jeanette, how was it?

NYT Article

John,

Unfortunately, I did not see all of the concert as my escort got up and was ready to leave before several encores. Needless to say, I was a bit heartbroken then and the next morning. I learned a good lesson about who to invite to a concert. He did bring an exquisite 94 Bordeaux for tailgating though so I have to give him credit for his taste in wine (and women).

I tried to do the iphone Mobile Upload thing on Facebook, but without my reading glasses I was blind for the night.

Thanks for posting this article - it let me relive a few really amazing moments. And for a rock concert review, this is unbelievably well-written. We need to get Jon Pareles writing reviews of St. Barths for us.

A few highlights for me...

Walk On - the U2 tribute to the Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi. She is a real living hero to me. One of my favorite inspirational quotes ever is her words, "When you are feeling helpless, help someone."

There was video footage by Desmond Tutu as a prelude to One which was really joyful and inspiring.

Quincy Jones was in the audience and Bono playfully sang a bit of Michael Jackson's Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough for him. It was a great moment.

And it was Bruce's 60th birthday and Bono was playing in Bruce's kingdom. Bono had all of us singing "He's the One" instead of Bruce "She's the One" in Bruce's honor and then the song broke into Desire which was unbelievable. I waited and waited and expected Bruce to come out on stage, but alas, no such luck.

So, I've calmed down from missing the last hour or so of the concert and am even playing with the idea of attending the upcoming show in DC on Tuesday night with an adventuresome friend. We'll see.

Thanks again for posting the article - it really captured the best of the evening. If you are a U2 fan, there are still ridiculously over-priced seats for Tuesday night. I'll bring the Bordeaux.

that would be a complete deal breaker for me....first and last date all wrapped up in one evening....and no amount of foo foo wine would change that... }:(

Ahem, for anybody with a knowledge and appreciation of French Bordeauxs, the wine wasn't foo foo...

Oh yes indeed, a deal breaker it was, especially since he was there as my guest. To his credit, he did offer to pay for both tickets after I invited him, but I declined. And it shouldn't have mattered either way. The show clearly wasn't over.

The wine didn't change how I felt about the incident, but it did make the ride home more bearable.

Annie Green Springs, Bali Hi, MD40-40, Boone's Farm anyone? (With a PBR or Rolling Rock chaser)

Back to topic. Even if cut short, sounds like it was a great concert.

Yes, it was a phenomenal concert and reading the article John posted helped me re-live the many extraordinary moments during the show.

And in retrospect, it may have been a bargain. I found out for the price of two tickets what may have taken me months to discover.

It seems like knowledge and insight often come from those "aha" moments. "Book learning" is important. But following your gut and senses, with an appreciation of timing and what's around - PRICELESS

IMHO,

V.

Yup, I agree, learn from the "aha" moments and move on when it makes sense. Didn't see this one coming as it was not a first date and his manners were that of an old world European gentleman otherwise.

God, I hope my dates don't read this forum...

anything that isnt screw top is foo foo... :D

BTW, I know you don't believe that for a second. That being said, I really love that New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs are screwcap.

not to digress from the topic at hand, but.....not all screw top wines are inferior....check out scott paul wines (the former shadoe stevens of radio-show fame) from oregon.

jeanette....it's all part of the buffett. you found you didn't like that about the "gentleman" so you don't take that from the buffett table anymore! all was not lost....you learned something about yourself!

explain to me then how I live with the strongest woman in the world...who held me up and kept me sane against unspeakble tragedies....one right after another

and a son to the second strongest woman n the world...a woman who raised a family from a wheelchair

and a father to the the third strongest woman n the world.....a girl who survived the death of her best friend in the world...her brother

all of whom I admire beyond words, which puts to sleep that theory about me and strong women....right??..LOL

Mike, there are no theories, this is all in good spirit, no different than your calling me a latte-drinking yuppie or razzing folks over frozen Dover sole. Don't take it any other way.

I didn't..hence the "LOL" in the answer...I take nothing seriously in here..the jousting which occurs is all in good fun....and as much as I dish it out, of course I'm leaving my self wide open and I'm gonna have to field a few coming at me as well..
no worries......its all good

i watched "beauty and the beast" last night with my 3 year old beauty and my 46 year old beast. mike, you and jeanette, could reprise the roles at le select in november!

strong women have certainly be prevalent in your life, mikeR...just not latte-drinking, dover sole-eating, foo-foo wine-drinking, jason mraz-listening women...that's all! it's all good!
