Name that tune?

last one...I could do this all day if allowed....LOL

There is a road, no simple highway
Between the dawn and the dark of night
And if you go, no one may follow
That path is for your steps alone

You who choose to lead must follow
But if you fall, you fall alone
If you should stand, then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way, I would take you home

I lied...

I'm gonna find myself a girl
Who can show me what laughter means
And we'll fill in the missing colors
In each other's paint-by-number dreams
And then we'll put our dark glasses on
And we'll make love until our strength is gone
And when the morning light comes streaming in
We'll get up and do it again

i don't know! i guess when i was that age i was forced to listen to whatever my mom had on the 8 track and she was a fan of "jimmy swaggert sings the classic gospel hymns" or "tammy wynette standing by her man" or "lynn anderson begging your pardon, i never promised you a rose garden".

or

i was probably stoned and didn't know, nor care, who was providing the soundtrack to my high!

....pick one!

i'm gonna be a happy idiot and struggle for the legal tender....

Tossing another one out there:

"Hey pretty baby don't you know it ain't my fault
I love to hear the steel belts hummin' on the asphalt
Wake up in the middle of the night in a truck stop
Stumble in the restaurant wonderin' why I don't stop

Gotta keep rockin' why I still can
I gotta two pack habit and a motel tan
But when my boots hit the boards I'm a brand new man
With my back to the riser I make my stand
And hey pretty baby won't you hold me tight
We're loadin' up and rollin' out of here tonight
One of these days I'm gonna settle down
And take you back with me to the [Deleted]"

One of these days I'm gonna settle down
And take you back with me to the Guitar Town

steve earle. figures...LOL

Dear ole' daddy, rest his soul left my mom a heavy load,
She tried so very hard to feel his shoes,
Workin' hours without rest, wanted me to have the best
She tried to raise me right but I refused.
And I turned twenty-one in prison doin' life without parole,
No one could steer me right but XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

This is such a beautiful moment.....you two are playing nice and actually enjoying each other.

now...hold hands!

I tend to vote with my wallet. When ol Steve got a tad too leftish for me, i quit buying his stuff.

Still buyin Bruce, tho...go figger...LOL

This one will be easy for this crowd but I was listening to it on the way home last night. It's just a painfully, beautifully written song.

If we lived in a world without tears
How would bruises find
The face to lie upon
How would scars find skin
To etch themselves into
How would broken find the bones

I have a funny story about that.
Saw Steve Earl live at Lincoln Park Zoo. Earl starts talking about the death penalty and a few drunken frat kids start doing the "wooo wooo" that drunken frat kids do anywhere.
Until it very slowly dawned on them that Earl was AGAINST the death penalty. It like a Gorillas In The Mist moment, seeing the realization come to these twerps. "But but but he's a fat southerner . . . How can this beeee???"
My wife and I were watching it and thought it was the funniest thing we had seen in a long time.
I am a pretty tolerant guy, but I've always hated frat punks.

I think this is appropriate for today (even though the name of the tune is obvious). We can all use some lyrics from Bruce that he wrote about the experience.

"Can't see nothin' in front of me
Can't see nothin' coming up behind
I make my way through this darkness
I can't feel nothing but this chain that binds me
Lost track of how far I've gone
How far I've gone, how high I've climbed
On my back's a sixty pound stone
On my shoulder a half mile line

Come on up for the rising
Com on up, lay your hands in mine
Come on up for the rising
Come on up for the rising tonight

Left the house this morning
Bells ringing filled the air
Wearin' the cross of my calling
On wheels of fire I come rollin' down here

Come on up for the rising
Come on up, lay your hands in mine
Come on up for the rising
Come on up for the rising tonight

Li,li, li,li,li,li, li,li,li

Spirits above and behind me
Faces gone, black eyes burnin' bright
May their precious blood forever bind me
Lord as I stand before your fiery light

Li,li, li,li,li,li, li,li,li

I see you Mary in the garden
In the garden of a thousand sighs
There's holy pictures of our children
Dancin' in a sky filled with light
May I feel your arms around me
May I feel your blood mix with mine
A dream of life comes to me
Like a catfish dancin' on the end of the line

Sky of blackness and sorrow ( a dream of life)
Sky of love, sky of tears (a dream of life)
Sky of glory and sadness ( a dream of life)
Sky of mercy, sky of fear ( a dream of life)
Sky of memory and shadow ( a dream of life)
Your burnin' wind fills my arms tonight
Sky of longing and emptiness (a dream of life)
Sky of fullness, sky of blessed life ( a dream of life)

Come on up for the rising
Come on up, lay your hands in mine
Come on up for the rising
Come on up for the rising tonight"

she opened for Mellencamp here in NY a few months ago. I don't know that I'll ever get sick of outdoor concerts on warm summer nites.
