We had never stayed in St.Martin before. Only the stop over and then off to St.Barths or other islands. This time we went to Nevis for two weeks and I happened to notice the low fares to and from St.Martin, $24.50 each way, so we thought we give it a try. The funny thing was that the actual airfare was only $50 US per person but the taxes were $75 US per person.
Arrival at the airport was no problem. We rented a car and off we went. They had received a heavy storm the day before and the roads were flooded in some spots. We took a left from the airport to miss traffic but I must say there was plenty of traffic no maatter which direction you traveled in St.Martin.
We stayed at the Le Petit Hotel. What a lovely small hotel right on the beach in Grand Case. We arrived early in the morning and our room wasn't ready for us yet. We dropped our bags and headed off to check out the island. It was a beautiful day so we went to Orient Beach and had a very nice lunch at Coco beach, relaxed at the beach and people watched. Actually, fairly amussing watching the "boat people" as it seemed to be "cruise ship day". We then headed back to our hotel and relaxed at our beach. Very nice and peaceful. Not many people to speak of and that is okay by us!
Our room was very nice, very large along with a small kitchen with a stove , dishwasher, I think a microwave and nice sized refrigerator. The bathroom only had a shower, but that was fine. Nice shampoo and soap products. Very clean! I think some of the other rooms have tubs?
Some of the restaurants that we wanted to try were not open but there many open as well. Our first night was Le Tastevin. Very rommantic spot right on the waterfront. Our dinner was very good and very nice service. We walked from our hotel to dinner so we stopped in many of the nice boutiques on the way back.
The hotel has a nice continnetal breakfast each morning with pastries and coffee and juices. Very nice. So each morning began with pastries and coffee on our wonderful balcony overlooking Grand Case Bay.
The next day was spent relaxing on the beach and then we traveled up to happy bay, not far at all. Very pretty and secluded beach. That evening we had dinner at Le Ti ' Provencal. Very intimate waterfront location. We enjoyed this place very much. Great food and service.
The next day the heavens openned and it rained the entire day. So we went shopping. We wanted to go to Marigot to shop but the roads in and around were a mess so we headed the other direction into Phillipsburg and did some shopping there. Not really what we were looking for but again we can always finds ways to amuse ourselves. We headed back to Grand Case and had dinner that evening at Le Cottage, another wonderful experience.
The next morning we awakened to thunder and light rain. We headed to PJA only to find many stranded passengers from the day before and lucky for us they called our flight to Nevis and off we went! By that point we were ready to get back to Nevis.
All and all we really did enjoy our time. I will say that we defintly noticed way many more people on this island than others. We were very surprised of the amount of garbage everywhere. I would think that they would take more pride in their island?
The food was fabulious and our hotel was wonderful. I highly recommend if you are planning a trip to St.Martin, Le Petit is a fabulous hotel.
Would we go back? Not sure, as there are so many other places that we haven't been yet. I will say the beaches are beautiful and the food in Grand Case is fantastic!
I will post a report of our Nevis trip in the Genral Dicussion forum below.
