Mykonos Hotels

Next summer Libby and I will be going back to the island of Mykonos for the first time in five years. Many new four and five star hotels have been constructed since our last visit.

Please give us your thoughts on the 4 or 5 star hotel that you stayed at. What was nice and what was not.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Mykonos Hotels

I haven't been to Greece in 25 years. But recently have started to do some research for possible future trip. Here is my list so far. Our criteria is very upscale, modern/contemporary.

The newest and most swank Mykonos hotel is Theoxenia Hotel http://www.mykonostheoxenia.com/
Stone clad walls, orange and turquoise Hessian fabrics, minimalist surfaces. Pool has white chairs and curtained four poster beds (those beds again!).

The Saint John resort opened last year to much acclaim

Perched on a hilside overlooking the Aegean just outside Ornos. Not as contemporary.

Hotel Belvedere atop Mykonos town. Restaurant Matsuhisa Mykonos is a Nobu restaurant. Stunning hotel. http://www.belvederehotel.com/main.htm

Happy planning and let us know where you end up staying.

The new Hotel Mykonos Theoxenia is a winner in our book. You can walk to town, and never have to worry about trying to catch a taxi or bus at night with hundreds of kids who want to get home late at night. The transportation issue is a major one at night. Renting a car during the day is OK, but would not recommend it at night. There is no place to park in town, so one must park and walk a long way. This is a major drawback to staying at some of the top hotels on the island. Now if you want to eat at the hotel everynight, then that is not a problem. However the most popular restaurants are found in town and one does not want to arrive before 10:30 PM. The nightlife is the key to the whole Mykonos experience.

Thanks for the info

Re: Mykonos Hotels

Lance--

We stayed at the Santa Marina in Mykonos on our honeymoon. We loved it and plan to return in 2 years for our 10th anniversary. The hotel is fabulous although it's not right near the town. The resort sits on its own peninsula on the Bay of Ornos. It's not too far and we never had any trouble getting cabs before or after dinner and a night out in town.

Here's the website. . .
