Drouhin Family History: In 1979, Gault-Millau Magazine held its wine "Olympiads" in Paris. In the Pinot Noir category, over 300 wines were submitted.
Most were French, some were from California, and only one came from Oregon: The @eyrievineyards 1975 South Block Pinot Noir. The Eyrie's Top 10 finish intrigued Robert Drouhin enough to restage the tasting in 1980 in the Drouhin cellars in Beaune. This time, the Eyrie wine finished 2nd to a 1959 Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny, by a narrow margin. News of this tasting brought the first widespread international attention to Oregon Pinot Noir.
